Adding Pizzazz with Pattern and Paint!

Are you bored with your home and ready to create a fun new look without breaking the bank? The quickest, easiest, and least expensive way to transform a space is by painting the walls.  This time...rather than doing just a typical paint job...go all out!

Your walls are a blank canvas and are the PERFECT place to incorporate pattern into your space. Geometric patterns, such as stripes and harlequins, work best because they coordinate well with any and all other patterns.

You can create either a soft subtle or a bold dramatic space with pattern depending on color choice and pattern size. Vertical and horizontal stripes also affect the way you view a room.  Horizontal stripes will lengthen a room, while vertical stripes will add height to your space.

If you are not ready to take the plunge and add pattern to multiple walls, then start by creating one accent wall in your room.  Below are some pictures that have inspired me that I hope do the same for you!

Thick bold horizontal stripes add a dramatic punch to this space and make the room appear longer

Thin vertical stripes accentuate the ceiling height and showcase fresh blue draperies

Stripes of varying thicknesses can add even more pizzazz in smaller spaces

Harlequins are perfect for an accent wall and add a touch of whimsy

What's Your Vision?

What are your goals and dreams?  Are they attainable? What if their was a way to help you define and clarify your desires? Well...there is...it's called a vision board.  You may have seen or heard of this tool in the book titled "The Secret" which has also been translated into a hit movie.   Vision boards "help make your dreams and goals more tangible and solid...they help you realize and commit to your personal vision."

How do you create this so called "vision board"? It's easy!  Collect a pile of your favorite magazines, a pair of scissors, and a magnetic or cork board of some kind.  Flip through your magazines quickly and find images or words that really stand out to you, ones that tug at your emotions, and rip them out!  There's no right or wrong when creating YOUR vision board, just do what feels right for YOU!  Arrange your images on your board how ever you see fit.

Once your vision board is complete, evaluate it.  Look to see if there are any common themes that help define your desires in life.  Display your vision board so that it will be seen by you on a daily basis and help keep you focused on your goals and dreams!

See it, believe in it, and you shall receive it!

Here are a few examples!

Pretty Things

pret·ty/ adj.
pleasing or attractive in a graceful or delicate way

I am truly inspired by and love all things vintage, ornate, distressed, vibrant, and...pretty.  My passion is any and all aspects of design including: interior design, refinishing furniture, and writing.  You should also know that I am "slightly" obsessed with the color turquoise and leopard print...

With my daily posts, I want to share with you all sorts of pretty things that inspire me!  Here are a few to start, Enjoy!

Le Versha Chairs, Anthropologie.com

What a great punch of color these would make on a patio! I can also imagine a patterned button tufted cushion on the seat, so cute!

Edison Cage Lights, multiple sources.

I have always LOVED these lights!  They would make a perfect accent in an art/design studio or even a reading nook, very unique!

Capri Blue - Volcano Candle, Anthropologie.com
This happens to be my most favorite candle!  It is an excellent year round candle that makes the perfect gift!  Enjoy the fragrance of tropical fruits, sugared oranges, lemons, and limes, redolent with lightly exotic mountain greens.
